What we do
What we do in Kenya

In future we would like to build rescue centre for the girls who might run to us with are reason that mybe they run away from family due to F,G,M , Early Marriages and forced labour
• Organizing seminers for Parents
We organize for seminers in the villages to speak about F.G.M and the effects it brings to the life of the girls when they grow to be young women in future
• Education and Mentorship
To increase the number of girls with tertiary level of education which will actively contribute to the development. We also organise seminars in schools, whereby we talk to girls and also motivate them; we do this by co-operating with teachers.
• Women Empowerment and Advocacy
We do this by connecting women to organizations that promote economic empowerment
• Networking and Partnership
By networking with organizations that can support to advance Gargar Charity e. V. mandates.
Every year on May 28 is International Menstrual Hygiene Day. This is to draw attention to the problem that many girls in the world can not afford sanitary pads. They then manage with old rags or leaves and are therefore unable to go to school or work during their period.
This puts the girls at a great disadvantage. Gargar Charity is involved in hygiene education to break the silence and raise awareness about norms around menstrual hygiene that disadvantage women. In the district where the girls' shelter is located, we provide large quantities of reusable, washable pads to poor girls and women.
The sanitary pads for this purpose were donated to us by cooperating associations in Germany:
'Leben mit Behinderung Hamburg' a self-help association of families with disabled relatives. The disabled members of the association make the bandages themselves in their own workshops. A wonderful cooperation!
Then there is 'Asili ya Mwanamke - Natur der Frau e. V.', an international association that supports education about gynecology and menstruation.
In Marsabit County, we were then able to educate ten schools about menstrual hygiene and distribute the pads. We were also able to give sanitary pads to women in prisons. Many were very touched by our donations, as the women cannot afford to buy sanitary pads themselves. They were just as touched to be taken seriously with their problems and to be able to talk about it.
